Everywhere we went was an assault on the senses, all bright neon signs and gaudy displays and flashing lights and intoxicating smells - especially when we approached the more pungent tofu stalls.

Every year I like to write about the new books I’ve read, partly to reassure myself that I still have enough spare time and that I haven’t atrophied into a soulless automaton, and partly because it’s a nerdy way to do a year in review (sort of).
